An effective lead magnet attracts organic leads and leads from advertising who express an interest in you and your business.
In business, there’s nothing better than building a list of people who actively want to hear from you. These are ideal prospects who have heard your message, seen your content, gotten to know you as an expert in your field, and are eager to know more.
This means creating a list of qualified prospects – people who are more likely to spend money with you.
They say “The money is in the list.” Whether your list is organic or built with advertising and joint venture deals, they're absolutely correct.
In order to develop a successful Expertpreneur® business, you need to develop relationships with your target market. Your lead magnet is the front end of that process. It's absolutely fundamental for doing business online. Though it can absolutely be used offline, as well.

You probably already know what I'm going to say right now: the key to developing an irresistible lead magnet is prospect research.
As I've said time and time again, it's the cornerstone of any Expertpreneur® business. You need to know your prospects' wants, needs, and aspirations… as well as their fears, frustrations, and problems.
You also need to know where they've been. The roadblocks they've faced and continue to struggle with. What keeps them up at night.
Beyond that, what about you or your industry might they be skeptical about? What have they seen a lot of? What haven't they seen? You need to address any objections that may arise immediately, so your prospect stays on board with you.
Once you've compiled all of this intelligence and have a good “snapshot” of your Ideal Client, you are ready to create your irresistible lead magnet.
Lead magnets are chiefly designed to push emotional buttons and evoke curiosity. Your prospect is only looking out for themselves. They couldn't care less about who you are or what you do, if you don't show them exactly what's in it for them right off the bat. They should think, “this is exactly what I needed!”
Now, the good news is… a lead magnet can be almost anything. It could be a demo of a product or a software you've created, a free report like my Income Acceleration Blueprint, a series of educational videos, or even a useful infographic.
Don't be afraid to think outside the box here. A free report is wonderful. However, the sky is the limit.
If you are a motivational coach, you might put together a collection of inspirational quotes with action steps related to your niche. A fitness coach might offer a video with a very specific workout series – a tool the prospect can put to use immediately.
It could be music, a podcast, or even a physical item, like a poster filled with quick tips for your Ideal Client. Whatever you decide, it has to be all about the “what” of the problem or solution. A lead magnet does not need to go deep into intermediate or advanced concepts – those should be saved for your paid info products and services.
You're creating hope for them, and offering simple steps to overcome their problem or achieve their dream. What you are presenting must be extremely pointed and get your prospect thinking how much more they can gain from you when they finish consuming it.
That's when you'll start to see leads gush in and your profits skyrocket.
How to Get the Attention You Deserve
Now, I've talked at length about creating and optimizing landing pages, which typically leverage lead magnets to entice your prospects to share their personal contact details. That is absolutely the most classic use of a lead magnet online .
Essentially, you would create a landing page and a follow-up email campaign, eventually pushing them towards a front-end product. All done simply and effectively with your CRM software.
However, there are other methods online to take advantage of your lead magnet.
For example, let's say you've created a business page on Facebook, and you're trying to generate “likes” and traffic. You could entice prospects to do this by setting up a campaign through your page.
Perhaps if they click the “like” button, they'll get free access to your irresistible free lead magnet, designed especially for them. A lead magnet that can start them down the road to achieving their burning desire, or solving their most painful problem.
Upon hitting the Like button, a tab opens up and says “enter your name and email address here to get instant access to (your irresistible lead magnet)”. A mini opt-in form is connected to your CRM, so once they enter their name and email, they'll be sent the lead magnet.
And just like that, they are on your list. Where they'll receive follow-up email “funnel” communications you developed, with your updates and offers.
Then you must continually produce valuable and actionable content for them. Communications that elevate your authority status and show your prospects who you are and how much value you bring.
When your prospects experience all of these different angles of your business – the personalized follow-up emails, the valuable tools and strategies in your content, and, of course, the invaluable lead magnet itself, they'll start to know, like and trust you, and want to find out more from you. And that's when they become customers.
Not Just Online
When you are dealing with people face-to-face or from a stage, that is a prime opportunity to offer a lead magnet in exchange for them plugging into your list.
For example, if you are giving a presentation at an event, you might create a special lead magnet related to the topic you spoke about. Maybe an infographic summarizing the key strategies in an easy-to-digest format, or a tool that expands upon what you shared.
No matter what it is, you can have your audience write their contact details down on a list for a physical copy of the item. Or even text to a certain number for the download link.
What's important… is creating the desire for it, and setting it up so the only way they can get it is by giving their name and email address to you. Or signing up for a newsletter. Anything you want, really.
A key point, though: you should use whatever mode of communication your audience prefers using. That'll create less resistance.
Another great example of an offline lead magnet (though it can work online as well) is a demonstration of your product. This could work particularly well for fitness coaches.
Pampered Chef is a prime example of a business that thrives on demonstrations. You set up a party with friends, family, or other potential leads. And you cook for them solely using Papered Chef products.
Now, if we're being honest for a second, most of us don't actually need a majority of the things they sell. However, when you're having a good time, perhaps enjoying a glass of wine or two, and see the host cook a delicious appetizer in a very short time thanks to a special tool, you'd be inclined to purchase it.
And even if no one at that event makes a purchase, just by participating in it and having a great time, they are now on the Pampered Chef business owner's list. They will forever be connected to that world and those products.
A Steady Stream of Prospects
The cornerstone of a successful Expertpreneur® business is having a steady steam of prospects coming in. As long as you are continually generating leads, you are positioning yourself for big profits and big success.
And the first step on the road to that steady stream is an irresistible lead magnet.
Think about what could be a fun and intriguing lead magnet for your business. Take the time to come up with different ideas (you may end up using more than one), because, once you have a lead magnet out there, even if it's not perfect, you will see an improvement in your business.
