Give Value Before You Receive

Have you ever helped a friend out in a time of need?

valuePerhaps they needed you to get them out of a jam… or guide them through a personal problem… or teach them about a subject you know well. Regardless, you most likely gave them assistance without asking anything in return. After all, they're a friend.

Well, in order to run a successful business, you need to think of your prospects in the same way. They're coming to you for help and want to see what you can offer. And they need reassurance that you're the real deal.

When you provide free, actionable, education-based content from the get-go, you show what you're capable of. They begin to know, like, and trust you and are far less resistant to spend money with you down the road.

It may seem frustrating having to give away things without knowing for sure if you'll make money. After all, what if they take everything and then disappear?

While that certainly could happen, the fact is prospects who see your value upfront are far more likely to become lifelong customers. And lifelong customers are the bread and butter of a successful business.

Instead of buying one front-end product, they'll become rabid fans who sing your praises to their friends, family, and colleagues. And potentially buy every product and attend every event you're involved with.

Suddenly that customer who may have spent $30 on a product is spending thousands, if not tens of thousands of dollars with you. All because you consistently provided value from the get-go.

Of course, the key here is not providing so much value that you have nothing left for your products or services. You need to design your content so it lays the groundwork for your solution. And let the products take your customers or clients to the next level.

I believe providing value is so integral to your success, you should put a note on your desk reminding yourself to do it every day. If you always keep it in the forefront of your mind, you will be well on your way to becoming a successful Expertpreneur®.

And while you're doing that, you have to focus on the second part of the equation, too. Without it, all of your selfless efforts will be for naught.

Putting Yourself Out There

Marketing StrategyThe second half of my success formula is often the most difficult for Expertpreneurs® to stomach.

Our society vilifies marketing and sales. People think of sleazy snake oil salesmen conning unsuspecting prey into buying their products. Or spamming friends and family through email and social media to promote your business. Both of which sound pretty terrible, I must admit.

However, when done right, marketing and sales can be wonderful and beneficial to the target audience. And they're absolutely vital to your success.

In fact, I urge you to think of yourself not as a coach, speaker, author or consultant, or other kind of ‘expert’ entrepreneur, but as a marketer first and foremost. Because the better marketer you are, the more you get to do what you love.

As Wallace Wattles put it in The Science of Getting Rich, you should live life as “the advancing man.” Always strive to discover something new every day and become the best marketer you can be.

A great way to do that is by gauging your marketing prowess based on the results you're getting. Take the time to try out different and better angles to reach your target market. Consider the pros and cons of tried and true concepts from 100 years ago, versus effective variations marketers use today.

Through trial and error, you'll discover what works and what doesn't in your business. And you'll develop the ideal strategy to consistently generate a steady stream of prospects and convert them into customers.

A word of warning, though: many Expertpreneurs® confuse “making new discoveries” with buying every app or software deal they find. You know, those “miracle solutions” Internet Marketers are always selling. And they end up shooting themselves in the foot.

I know first hand, as I used to be guilty of doing the same thing myself.

So, instead of buying new products “just in case,” buy them “just in time” – when, and only when, you absolutely need them to move your business forward. This will keep you always moving in the right direction without wasting money.

Anyway, the fact of the matter is marketing is the lifeblood of your success. The better you are at marketing, the bigger results you'll have in your business. And when you combine it effectively with providing value, you'll see a transformation like never before.

Putting The Formula Together

Now that you understand the two key components for success, can you see what a successful business looks like?

You put value first in everything you do. That means offering a compelling lead magnet to get prospects onto your list, and following up with encouraging and educational communications to get them to know, like, and trust you.

In addition to that, you produce relevant, actionable content and share it with them. Slowly but surely they consume more and engage with your business. They leave comments on your blogs, connect with you on social media. You develop a true relationship with them.

All the while you're working hard on marketing – creating targeted ad campaigns, sharing relevant news through social media, and, of course, educating your prospects. You're taking a multi-channel approach to reach your Ideal Clients in as many ways as possible.

And because all of your marketing puts education and value first, your prospects are thrilled to see what's next. Instead of giving a “hard pitch,” you're in tune with your Ideal Client's problems, challenges, and struggles, as well as their aspirations, goals, and ambitions. Your communications help them get from where they are to where they want to be.

Due to your commitment to this formula, when you finally make an offer for your front end product, they jump right on it because they're so excited to get help from you. Transforming them from a curious prospect into a paying customer.

And ultimately, as long as you continue to provide value and commit to great marketing, those customers will eventually become lifelong customers. And you'll see a boost to your bottom line like never before.

Of course, your path to success will not be a straight line. You will experience challenges, obstacles, and difficulties. However, as long as you stick to the formula, you will make it through.

So, do yourself a favor. Start thinking about how you can provide more value to your prospects, and become a better marketer.
