You see, when I was first starting out as a consultant, I was pretty much like all the other corporate consultants out there. I'd engage with a business, analyze their situation, determine the causes of the problems they were facing, then present my recommendations for fixing the causes of those problems.

I had to leave the fixing and implementing up to those in that company. And in many cases, the company did not take the actions necessary to fix their problems. Which as you can imagine, was less than fulfilling for me. After all, my #1 goal as a consultant was to help people.

At this time, my husband and I were already helping people every day, with a couple of pharmacies that we owned. While we were helping people, I always knew we could do more than count out pills to fill their prescriptions. One day, I had gone to my daughter's school to pick her up. This was a big day, since she was bringing the school pet guinea pig “Max” home for a couple days. As she walked out of her school, I could see she was crying. “Max died!” she exclaimed as she sobbed and ran into my arms.
